Before using your Saxenda weight loss pen, please read the full, detailed guide on the Saxenda website.
Getting started on Ozempic
- The recommended Ozempic starting dose is 0.6 mg daily for one week.
- The official dosing schedule recommends increasing your dose by 0.6 mg each week until the dose reaches 3 mg.
How it works
Saxenda helps you lose weight and keep it off because of liraglutide, it’s main ingredient. Liraglutide is a glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) receptor agonist which helps you lose weight by:
- Lowers your appetite by sending signals to the appetite center in your brain
- Helps your stomach digest your food slower, making you feel full even when you eat less food
- Stimulates insulin release which regulates your blood sugar after a meal
Saxenda versus Ozempic: Which is better for weight loss?
- Both liraglutide (Saxenda) and semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy) are GLP-1 receptor agonists
- Ozempic is FDA-approved to treat type 2 diabetes but is offered off-label as an antiobesity weight loss drug. Saxenda is approved for weight loss in obese or overweight people
- In clinical studies, people on Ozempic lost slightly more weight compared to Saxenda. However, both drugs are effective in helping you lose weight and keep it off
- Saxenda and Ozempic work better when paired with a nutritious diet and exercise
- Saxenda is a one-daily injection; Ozempic is a once-weekly injection
